B.B Development Chart

Big Butterfly Development Chart

Each Unit has a development chart that each child’s keyworker works with to observe and assess development of children. These goals are met by the Early Years Foundation Stage activities planned and provided by staff :) – Forms are updated regularly so below is just an example.

PHYSICAL TICK DATE
Runs safely on whole foot – avoid bumping into others    
Turns pages in a book    
Begin to use tripod grip – three fingers to hold pen or crayon    
Imitates drawing simple shapes such as circles and lines    
Drinks well without spilling    

 

PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL TICK DATE
Interested in others’ play and start to join in    
Seeks out others to share experiences e.g. shows others a toy    
Shows affection and concern for people who are special to them    
Initiates play, offering peers to join them    
Able to engage in pretend play    

 

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE TICK DATE
Enjoys rhymes and joins in with actions or vocalisations    
Understand simple sentences e.g. throw the ball    
Understand who, what, when e.g. who’s that? Where is that?    
Holds a conversation jumping from topic to topic    
Uses a variety of questions e.g. what, where, why?    

 

LITERACY AND MATHEMATICS TICK DATE
Has favourite stories, rhymes, songs etc    
Fill in the missing word e.g. Humpty Dumpty sat on a ……….?    
Recites some number names in sequence    
Makes comparison in quantities e.g. ‘more’, ‘lots’, ‘all gone’    
     

 

UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD TICK DATE
Has sense of own immediate family and relations    
In pretend pay, imitates every day actions    
Enjoys playing with small world objects e.g. farm, garage etc.    
Operates mechanical toys e.g. turn a knob, wind up a toy etc    
Remember and talk about significant events
